Finally getting around to clearing out my 'head box'. Doing a bunch at once makes the vinegar go further.

From left to right: True Temper Flint Edge, no-name HB, Charo the Woodslasher, CMSTP railroad head, Plumb rockaway, and a Niagra from Manhattan Axe Co.

More updates to come.

shame, i lost this thread a while back and was hoping that i would come back to see a bunch of beauties. any chance on an update?

Ive never thouht of stacking them like that... I'm gonna be busy tonight for sure...

Charo the Woodslasher is all spiffed up with a nice shiny steely smile. The Plumb rockaway, Niagara, and Flint Edge are all hung but not sharpened. The no name HB was a piece of crap, but I hung it anyway even though I don't think I'll be using it. I've actually got a new stack in the bucket now, minus the vinegar. I guess I should finish the axes I've started before cleaning up new ones :) I'll sharpen them up and post some photos.

Here's an update on the bucket o' heads. Charo the Woodslasher, the 2# Manhattan, and the 2# Kelly Works Flint Edge, the Plumb rockaway, and the noname HB all got new hafts. The HB was found to be quite thick in the bit, and bit/eye alignment wasn't so hot. As you can see it veers to the right. But it was hung anyway as an experiment using the removable metal wedge that came with another head. The CMSTP railroad head is not hafted and may be on its way to another owner soon. Charo the Woodslasher, the Manhattan, and the Flint edge all got sharpened. The Flint Edge steel was a bit softer than the others, and it took a shine a bit easier. Charo and the Manhattan will be going to New York state with me this weekend for their first tastes of wood in a long time. The Plumb rockaway hasn't been sharpened yet.

Thanks for the update.

Wow, that HB is really off-kilter. At that point it's worth tossing in the forge, giving it a few whacks and re-hardening/tempering.

I like the look of that pitted Connecticut.

And if your buyer for the CMSTP doesn't pan out then send me a message. I'm on the opposite end of that line from you. That old rail line is now one of my favorite trails.

You are the buyer! I sent you a PM last week about it. Don't worry it's not going anywhere.

I received the CM&StPRR axe today. Much appreciated.

In June I'll be attending a tour of old railroad sites along this abandoned line. I'll probably bring this along. It's a little piece of local history. Thanks again.
