I finished this knife and sheath a few days ago. It's destined to go as a going away present to a guy at work. I thought you guys might like to see it before it goes out.

EnZo Trapper in O-1. Scales are Buckeye Burl, stabilized with Minwax hardener, and with white liners.

The photos aren;t the best to really show how nice the burl grain is. I'm still working on getting the lighting and camera settings right. As you can tell, I'm a rookie at it.

This is the sheath I made for it. I dyed it black so he can wear it at work if he wants (black leather required), but it really looks nice in a light brown sheath, like maybe dyed with British Tan or similar. I may make another one for him and dye it brown.

Thanks fellows. It just doesn't seem right to put plain pins on such richly figured woods. Burlwood demands a mosaic pin, to my eye anyway. I kindly have to admit I'm not entirely pleased with my pin setting on this one. Looking closely, there is a little gap around three of the pins. It's minor, very micro-tiny, but I really like the pins and tube to not show any gap, not even the slightest, around their circumference. Buckeye is pretty soft and that may have had something to do with it when drilling.

That burlwood comes from Bad Dog Burls, if anyone's interested in getting some. The owner (can;t remember his name right off-hand) sure was a pleasure to deal with. The thing I like best is being able to see the block you are buying, and then you can call and ask questions about cracks or voids or other defects.

Here's how the knife began...in infant stages:

Beautiful work. I've kinda got a soft spot for nice wood myself.

(Crappy photo, but you get the drift.)

Beautiful work, I think everyone here would feel proud to own a knife like that.

That looks great - both elegant and ready for hard work.

We'll all be sure to let you know if we are leaving our jobs.;)

Thank you all for the kind words. I've scaled a few EnZos before - macassar ebony, cocobolo, rosewood, and even scaled two EnZo Elvers. Now those little blades, very pointy and sharp, are very nice, even though they are in D2 (ugh).

Foilist, we have a little history, I could probably swing one for you when you leave your job! ((:D))

Samael nice collection! I'm pretty sure I see some Macassar in there, maybe some ash or maple burl (just guessing at a couple of them), but I definitely see one piece of Buckeye, if not two! The others could be anything to my eye.

Here's some of the order I got from Bad Dogs. He threw the Teak and Mallee scale pairs in for free. I sliced that Buckeye block right down the middle as soon as it arrived. I took just enough time to choose which way to saw, but I could wait no longer!

This Myrtle Burl block is about 4"x4"x9". I've sliced it (resawn on the bandsaw) but have not used any yet.

I wanted a Black Ash burl block, but I think he was out at the time. I can;t remember now, it's been a year or so. Anyway, when I called, he said "I've got some ash burl scales if you want", so I went ahead and got a couple pair.

I've still got plenty of ebony, some rosewood (but no more cocobolo :( ), and some mesquite burl, but I made that order to get some of the nicer woods like you'll see on alot of Bark River knives.
