I just got a Bucklite 422. The tang reads: Buck 422 U.S.A." There is a single dot after the "422".

Does anyone know what kind of steel the blade is made from?

All my thanks.

Recently at Buck Knives, an ECN(engineering change notice) was found pertaining to a 500 series knife blade. The change was the use of Sandvik steel, assumed to be 425M. The single dot seems to apply to other models as well, that were being produced in the 1984-85 time frame.
That's about all I can offer

a pic would be helpful, the first version valex handled bucklites should have had 425 Mod, at least thats what the 112's and 110's so they should be the same.

Look like this

with a dot, I believe this should be your type cause 2nd design should have standard 86-present date stamp system.(see the sticky at top of 1st page of this subforum)

2nd design was available from 88-95 and 425mod from 88-93/94 with 420hc 94-95.

looks like this

Hope this helps....and my info is accurate.
