When did this model first come out? I have one with maroon handles with these markings

BUCK
424.
U.S.A.

The one dot has me confused.

The 424 first showed up in the 1984 catalog.

I don't know if this will help, but in the history of the 500 series, it's noted that a single dot after the model number meant that the blade was fin blanked rather than conventionally blanked and that the change took place in the early 80's. Maybe it's the same with your 424.

Thanks! Why no date code marking?

Because they didn't start using date codes until 1986. Yours was made prior to that.

I think they may have actually been introduced in '83 but didn't make it into the catalog until the following year. I also remember that the first ones were OD green, then black ones were added later. I don't know about the maroon handles. The steel would be 425M.

I've also found a reference to the dot (start of fine blanking) in regards to the Bucklites.

Plumb and JK,

I have this exact description as a model 422, my brain thats not eating the Med. Diet says that I purchased it in the early 80's (post 83)and that there has been a thread with photos showing the details of these first 112/422 Bucklites. One of the things is there is a circular brass shim under the brass blade rivet in the very first editions, and later ones did not have that. Both my rear scale rivets are also brass with the spring rivet being SS. I carried mine at work for a year or so because of the light weight. Eventually, I went to a 303 to get stuff off my belt. I am pretty sure ITE could speak on this subject if he comes along and sees it.....I think maybe Joe Houser or some other Buck employee made comment in thread also.

300Bucks

PS Check out this thread, i.e. Bill Keys post. The above knive was likely the first 2 piece model. Jk is yours a 424 or 422?

Mine is a 424, with the brass shim under the blade rivet, and 2 brass pins and one stainless. It`s about the size of my 501.

Thanks for all the help. This one was donated to auction on my forum to help with Hanna`s expenses, so I needed info about it since I am not the original buyer.
