Hello all, this looks like a 442 Demo/Sample, I guess... It has no markings on the handles or blade... Came from the same ex-Buck-employee... I didn't have one like it, to show side by side but a red clear one with a different blade... This is my Daughters bucklite... Thanks for looking... ITE

Thanks for posting the photos ITE . I got one of those in a promo Buck did in 2004 . They offered a 442 like that packaged with a 110 for the usual price so I purchased one . DM

Cool, a two for one price... I think the only thing they have now are two for one China knives... I Think...

ITE, Yes, it was a good deal . I seem to remember it being $29.99 . I gave the 110 to a man that had done me a nice favor and the 442 to one of my girls . She still carries it . Its a black handle model, not as nice as yours . DM

DM, 30$ for two USA made Buck Knives is a good deal... It's a great deal... I'm sure your Daughter 442 is just as good as my Daughters 442... ... ITE

Damn, I had one that I bought around 2012 and broke the blade about a year ago, tried to get a replacement from buck but they said it was discontinued and gave me a bucklite max, which is not nearly the same quality as my original bucklite had been. Then I looked on this European site and they were charging like $50 for a bucklite. Now I really wish I hadn't broken it. Btw just looked and saw you are around portland, me too ITE

domt, I live in Newberg Oregon... I think the Bucklites are way overpriced...
People are just bidding them up, why who knows... You can buy a custom
Buck knife from Buck for around the same price... I collect Bucklites but I
am not going to pay a ton of money for plastic handle knives... They are
a great knife but I rather buy a brass 110 for that kind of money...
When I first started collecting Bucklites... I buying them for $10 - $20 new
in the box... Now they're just way too much and I don't know why...
Because they made thousands of them... Especially the common maroon,
green and black handle ones... I still look for them all the time and buy
them at a fair price... They're still out there... I learned to look for them in
other places than the big auction sites... Some of these guys are just
driving the price way up... Don't get caught up in the moment, again they
made hundreds of these knives... I do wish they would make them again,
especially the first generation ones... I see 442 For sale all the time at a
fair price... Have patience and look around...Good luck...

:)

I have one I took the clip off of and now have misplaced the clip.

ITE, I agree too high. That's why I am always cautious to talk about 300 rarity as prices seem to go up after we all have discussions. Lets watch and see if the 42 and 44 don't go up on evil bay with just this short burp.

I like the 444 and bought three at a knife show when they were discontinued, same thing with some discontinued Vantages. I got a couple of un-serrated blade versions in beige scales so I could dye them orange should I destroy my current orange dyed heavy duty carry EDC.

The lesson here is if you find a 'less' expensive Buck you like for EDC you might find and keep a backup (or two) NIB just in case they are discontinued or for gosh sakes you actually loose one.......the only models that keep going are the 100s, 110s,112s and the black 300s, everything else could be dropped when new models are designed or sales slow.

When you have a handful of collectors chasing them it causes a chain reaction to the market. A few go high because some ARE hard to find. Even experienced collectors will bid up a scarce one there looking for and give up when it's price is to high. But folks see that high price and think all of them are that valuable. One did sell at that level. Take the 422 Gator knife for example. 500 maybe? Widely distributed there are likely few hordes to feed the collecting market unlike the green Slippery Rock 422 where I know one girl dumped over 25 a few years ago. Like any other collectable item some are just not around anymore. And if you got to have it...I'm with you and I won't pay to much but some folks don't have the patience or time to keep looking and that disease then spreads.
