Those of you who have this knife, what is your impression of it? Do you enjoy using it? How much strength are you giving up by losing brass bolsters and liners? Thanks.

We have it and enjoy using ours. I'm not sure as to the amount of strength loss in brass to valox. We've used ours for all kinds of normal reasonable cutting and haven't noticed a desire for more strength only that it carried lighter. DM

Dog,,if you need that much strength, maybe you need a different tool.

There is always the Buck warranty should one fail.

I used a 426 on two deer and 3 hog this past season. Did just fine.

Very much enjoyed its light weight.

the orgional 426 had a unique drop point blade for the first few issues
no date code and red or green handle then very shortly
they went to clip point makeing the drop points verry verry collectable!!
they are strong enugh to do the job
as said if it is not then ya needs a diffrent tool ...

It's pretty clear that there will be a loss of strength when you go to the weaker build.

If you need more strength for tough jobs, stick to the traditional 110 and 112.

You can't beat them for strength......next best thing to a Buck fixed blade.

ah heck, get both!

I don't have a 486 but I have a 482 and just love it for backpacking. It's incredibly light and there are times when ounces matter. I love the chunky feeling of my 112 love my Buck 500 but they won't go in my pack.

Pinnah, I like the looks of your 482. Nice and clean. The current version has thumb studs and non removable pocket clip. Too bad.

Dog, His 482 was of the Boone & Crokett gift tin set offered in Dec. 2011. They are still easy to find if you like it. DM
