I just saw this knife in the store today, and I really like it a lot !! ($34)
Does anyone here have it ? I would like to know how it is in regards to handling, edge performance, ergonomics and utility. This really seems like an awesome knife for the money. Buck impresses me everytime with their newer (and older) models. Always seem like good value, even though our prices are high up here. I'm assuming it's 420HC. I didn't see the sheath, and forgot to ask.

Thanks :)

I've not seen or handled one,but the catalog says it's 420HC and has a nylon sheath.

hiwa, I could'nt read the numbers but your Buck knife looks to be the Diamond Back. Those are of 420 blade steel.DM

I did a little pixel work in photoshop and the number looks like 679 to me David. The knife is a little different than the Diamondback.

Yeah guys, I thought it was a Diamondback , but it's not. It has a semi-hard plastic handle, and it's a lot thinner in the handle than a Diamondback , which I like. The blade shape is very similar. Also, I could tell it has a full tang by sight and the weight at the handle. It felt so good in my hand, that I want to sell my Gerber Gator DP,and replace it with the 629.

It is the 679, just out in 2009.A 629 # does not appear in the model history. But the shield on this model came out in 2009.DM

Thanks David Martin. Sorry,629 was a typo. It is the 679 like you state,as per the Buck website, and IIRC,on the knife I saw. Next payday , it'll be in my collection I hope. It will be a hard-core user , too.

It is one of our new models for 2009 and is a domesticly [USA] made product at a similar pricepoint to the imported diamondback which it was designed to replace as part of Bucks commitement to making product in the USA. It has been very well recieved in the market place and I am sure you will enjoy.

Am I in luck !! The store (close to home) was open today , so I said ,what the heck, and went in to get it. I bought the last one; the display model !! ($34 CDN)
What a great knife ! The handle fits my hand perfect , and the full-tang balance and feel is really nice. My Gerber XDP I've had for years is now gonna be sold. This is way nicer ( and less expensive .)
