I never paid much attention to the Bucklites before, but now I'm starting to wonder. Who has and uses these and how do you like them?

You talking about the older ones or the current Bucklite Max?

The current Bucklite Max is nice and thin and light. I've had the 482 and 486. Really prefer the smaller 482 for EDC use. In the end, I find the Bucklite Max folders just too "tactical" in their appearance, especially the 486. Something about the angular false double edge strikes the wrong chord me. I don't care for the thumb studs and clip either. I don't see what the current Bucklite Max offers that the Vantage doesn't do better, with the exception of the lock back. But in all honesty, both the Bucklite Maxes that I've owned loosened up rather quickly, so I can't say that the Vantage gives up any durability.

I've not owned any of the older Bucklites but have an Ecolite 112 and really like it. It's great in hand and looks great. I can't imagine swapping my Ecolite for the older Bucklites I've seen for any reason.

I purchased a used 444, made in 1997. When it came, it was butter knife dull, dirty, had minor blade play in all directions. The knife had a busy previous life. If only I knew Buck would be selling new ones again...

Anyhow, I cleaned it up, put a nice edge on, and now it's a good carry knife. The 444 is feather light, weighing 36g, or 1-1/4 ounces. I used it to whittle a letter opener from a dowel; the steel held up fine. The handle is very comfortable. I have not done anything about blade play; it's really not a factor in normal use. I think these are not built like tanks, but are still plenty ready for duty.

I have the 440 series, carrying and using the 442 from time to time.

I have an older one, I found it in a parking lot...I would not have bought it if I had seen it in a store, but its a good knife. Not really liking it I treated it hard, and its taken everything just fine.

The older ones, not the Max (had to look those up).

The Ecolites sound like an alternative, if anyone else would like to discuss those as well, please do.

I carried an Ecolite 112 for a couple of weeks to try it out. I like to carry knives in the right front pocket of my jeans. I found it doable with the Ecolite 112. Of course it carried well in the sheath, as well. Very nice knife. Good design with a well shaped blade. Nice and light. Fit and finish was very good. No wobble.

I ended up buying a second and gave them both as gifts to people I like. No problems with either knife. Just was a bit more than I wanted to carry on a regular basis and I missed not having multiple blades. (I favor a 301.)

I like the 1st generation bucklite knives the best 84-87.... But I do have some of the second generation one piece ones and others...
I used a 422OD one for a EDC knife for years and still do... It does everything I need a knife for... I take it everywhere I go, just about...

My first 422...

I got a used BuckLite 422 (like the 112, but with a lightweight, plastic handle) on that big auction site for $7. I love it. It's extremely light and comfortable to carry in front or back pocket. At three times what I paid, I'd still be very satisfied. Paired up with my Case peanut and/or Victorinox Rambler, it makes for a great EDC combo.

Thank you for the link, a trove of information there. Your collection is quite impressive to say the least. I like that most of the user reviews out there are positive.

I encourage people to please continue sharing their impressions here...

I love my 426 web special and carry it often. I did, however, take the liberty of adding a Kwik thumb. Also have an orange 422 which I've started carrying a bit. It and wound up putting the Kwik thumb on it instead, need to get more of those little buggers. I know I've got a couple of extras stashed somewhere.
