I have a Bucklock 531 model 1488 but it says patent pending on the box and the blade. I can't find one anywhere online. Not sure if it's a sawby... But the patent pending sure seems rare. I can't seem to post pictures here. Any thoughts? I don't know much about Buck knives.

A standard 531 will have the cutout in the handle so you can release the lockback mechanism to close the knife. A sawby will not have the cutout and you will have to push down a
lever that pertrudes out from the front bolster in order to unlock the handle.

Ok thanks. Mine is not a sawby then because I have the cut out. I still can't find another patent pending though.

But mine looks just like the picture of the sawby... Plus a cutout

My standard 531's have "Pat Pend" stamped into the blade and the sawby's have the patent number.

I have the 531 in Ged's first picture. With the same stamp. Only my sheath is the folded type, stitched on one side and the snap has Buck 3 times on it. A real handsome model. DM

Nice. Thanks for the info guys. I do really love this Buck even though it's not a sawby. I'm going to keep it oiled and looking good for the long term. It's helped me gain an appreciation for these beautiful knives.
