BuckMaster 184 pre-patent

While sorting through a family collection I found a Buckmaster 184 pre-patent Unused complete with all accesories and in the box. As I myself am not a collector I looked it up on e-bay and was shocked to find one selling for over $500 with all the accesories on an E-Bay store and one very similar to mine selling in auction for $230ish. I did some research and found that the one I own is from the first year production where only 2600 were manufactured.
I am probably going to sell the knife and am curious as to where I will get the best price as I have noticed that e-bay runs a little on the low end. Also, I am curious as to what a realistic "real world" value would be. If anyone can give me some input I would appreciate it.

-Thanks

If it was from a family collection I would keep it. It is almost irreplaceable.
I Think Ebay tends towards the high side not Low end...If it is right what you describe and it has all of the original parts it is quite rare and valuable to collectors. As far as real world values, its whatever someone is willing to pay.
I have always wanted one, never could afford it, I will paypal you $100.00 right now :D LOL Good luck with it!!!!
Selling for over $500.00 in an ebay store and SOLD are 2 different things :D
It is listed in a store for $500.00 not sold. :D

2600 were sold the first year but that does not mean that they are the only first variation units. It is very likely that more than 2600 were produced in the first version. It was sometime during the next year that the first change occured. FWIW...

Still considering selling this knife? If so, please send pics and price! I do Paypal and the knife would have to be sent to an APO since I am in Iraq. (jon.lockey@iraq.centcom.mil)

I also would favor eBay. List it for a loooong auction, 7 days or more...cram the description with things like Buck, Buckmaster, 184, custom, prototype, NOS, pretty much anything you think would attract a collector...take lots of pics, with a close-up of the stamping on the blade...also a pic of the label on the box...

And although it is not allowed to sell on this Forum (Forum Rules), you might want to come back here when it is listed/advertised and let us know... ;)

BTW: There are other knife related auction sites...

And this site, which caters to the 184...
