Hello,

Would you Buck knife collectors explain to me more about this knife and what are the spikes for on the handle?

Thank You

WoW .. Lots to read thru. So from what I'm gathering the large pins are so the knife can be used as a anchor of some kind. Can the be used pointing either way?
Also can anyone give a situation or use for this function? I'll check youtube as I'm having trouble with my eyesight again.

Thank You

I read some where that the spikes are for a grappling hook

Per one who was there:

Regarding the grappling hooks, these are described it the patent which CAN BE SEEN HERE. In brief, the patent discusses the attachment of the grapples to the quillon with sufficient strength to support a load of 600 pounds and reference is made to a casting line. With this said, it is generally accepted that using the knife as a grappling hook, which implies the act of tying a rope to the pommel and throwing the knife, could be very hazardous! In fact, the last of the BUCKMASTER knives came with small flyers saying that using the knife as a grappling hook would void the warranty. A better use of these hooks are as anchor pins where knife can be wedged in some rocks or the crotch of a tree and used with a securing line off the lanyard loop attached to the hollow handle cap/pommel.

Gotta say, when I first saw that OP picture, I thought of Bud K
:foot:

The knife was originally intended for SEALs, as in navy frogmen. The anchors would have been used primarily to hold the diver in place while in the water.

I saw that .. how cool !! The cap is water proof, Swiss made compass, and a sharpening stone on the sheath. Can the spikes be threaded so they point either way?

At their current going price, I doubt I will ever see or own one.
