Buckmaster Failures?

Hi guys, I was wondering if there are reported failures of this old heavy tank and if so what were the common ones, I know the tip looks fragile and I might not want to use it as a crowbar. I mean is it a user even though it is heavy? My brother started me into the high dollar knife world with the knife and I can't sell it because of the sentimental reasons but I would be interested in using it if it would "hold up".Thanks for your time and responses and God Bless-paul

I have never used one of these, but have seen plenty at gun shows for sale. They look solid enough. I think that it was intended for heavy use much like the new intrepid series. So use it, and if it breaks then you know it was not worth it, if it doesn't, then you know you have a good blade.

Paul,

The most common reason we got any back in the begining was for tip breakage. If you stabbed it into a tree and tweaked it side to side the tip would sometimes break. Of course this happens with most hardened blades and is only made worse with the added leverage of the big Buckmaster. We beefed it up some to help but our customers were telling us they did not want a fat tip. If a person really worried about that, they would just regrind a stubby tip on the knife and go from there.

Hope this helps,

Thank you, I figured that the tip might be prone to that if used as a prybar. I was actually curious about the handle to blade junction. I heard rumours to the "failures" of this knife but I realistically figured that the real reason for the rumour was probably that someone was too cheap to spend the dollar, Seems that "experts" are sometimes connected to the wallet. The need to use this for heavy use is not there but it is nice to know that it could! Thanks for your replies and God Bless-paul
