Buckmaster with upside down stamp

Hi everyone. This is my first post to the forum. I've owned quite a few Bucks over the years as a knife collector, but this is the first time I ever had anything worth writing about. I do some driving for business and buy knives at pawn shops, garage sales, gun shows, etc., when business is good in the summer and sell them when business slows down in the winter. I saw this Buckmaster the other day in a used sporting goods store and I just had to have it. The store was selling the knife on consignment for the owner, who got it as a present from his dad in the mid-eighties. I offered them $100 less than they were asking and they took it. I figured I'd post it on here, since it is a rare knife in like new condition. I sure hope it isn't a fake, although I'm confident its real, since I had another 1986 Buckmaster to compare it to that I bought earlier the same day in a pawnshop. I've included some pics of my new knife. Hopefully they work. Other than the inverse stamp, the other odd thing about this knife is that the finish at the top of the tang and on part of the stamp matches the finish on the guard, not the rest of the blade, like it wasn't quite finished. But I'm pretty sure its an authentic Buckmaster. And its all there in the box with everything there other than the sample of Flitz that I read came along with these. Any comments are appreciated, since it's only the third Buckmaster I've ever owned. I plan on hanging on to it, at least for a while. Thanks.

Dang it. Pictures didn't work? Guess I'll have to read the FAQ again. Got it, now they work.

Welcome, BRJB

There are a couple of expert 184 folks who visit here often, likely before or during weekend you should receive some lowdown on this subject.

300Bucks

You have a very desirable 184 there. Don't take my word as gospel but I think the Inverted were made 85/86 and the Inverted stamp is rare as only a few were made. You have a great find, Box papers Scabbard and in unused condition. I'm sure one of the experts can tell you more. David Martin will most likely know.

The only INVERTED BuckMasters WE have seen were the Variation #4 "1986" stamped 184! THAT is JUST like what you have here! MOST people dont reconize this.. A Great and Very rare find. I stated in My book "BuckMaster Knives" "maybe 3 out there"! It might be a whole tray and up to 50. . This knife was made between OCT. 1985 till DEC. 1986 with media blasted ones numbering 45,552(only 1,102 black oxide) So STILL 50 is an awesome low number!
Theory is the new 1986 date coded stamp was put in wrong by an BUCK employee and MAYBE a whole tray went through the system or MAYBE just a few blades. Who knows as Buck cranked out more BuckMasters in this time period then ever before! I had one sold it and my wife found another one on the BAY a month later(she is VERY lucky). Very cool VERY RARE
