BucknBear Knives - any good? Thoughts?

The name sounded vaguely familiar ( still not 100%sure if I've really heard of them before) so I googled the company and from the pictures I've seen and the prices they sell for, I currently have the impression that they may be made in Pakistan.
They have a website, and I couldn't find where the knives are supposed to be made, just some info about what Steel is supposedly used.

It's a good thing you asked about them here before buying one because I am certainly sceptical about them.

The more I see the more sceptical I get. The fit and finish on them seems too nice to be Pakistani, but they sell blade blanks so they may just be assembling kit knives.
The sheaths scream Pakistan to me as well, on a few pics of a folder and sheath it's the typical thin ( not even sure what animal ) leather that is still fuzzy on the backside, and has the typical double row yellow or white stitching that's not even set into a groove like quality leather work usually is.

Listen to what I say here, but take it with a grain of salt because I have no proof of this and could hopefully turn out to be wrong. ( if I'm wrong these knives could be a steal )

I'm sorry to do this again, but now I am positive that you should avoid them.

I just saw a Damascus Steel clone of a serge pachenko ( I probably spelled it wrong ) coin knife on their website.
I was pretty sure before due to all of the cheapo tracker style knives and for the prices in general, but this really confirms my suspicions.

Well you are right on one thing. I did find out from a couple of different sources that they are made in Pakistan. They are also a new company. Est. 2008 and probably got their distributor in PA around 2011, but those are just guesses.

I found some online stores are carrying them. Even though I buy a lot from Amazon, I'm tossing them out as a reputable reference. They carry nearly everything, caveat emptor.

So of the other dealers, the only one I am even slightly familiar with is ACK. So it is still a crap shoot. I will say I found a excellent review on them here by knife depot if anyone is interested. They confirm much of what has been said above, but also say the knives are not of reputed low Pakistan quality.

Still in a quandary. They have one that really caught my eye. luckily it is currently out of stock. lol

Bladehq is a sponsored dealer, but I'm not sure about the others. If they're not sponsored dealers you don't want to be posting about them here.

Fair enough. Thanks for the heads up. If one of the sponsors here carries them, that sounds like a positive indicator for Bucknbear at least not being a fly-by-night, fertilizer manufacturer.

I found another post here from masterj back in 2012 asking basically the same question I had.
One response came from a banned user, so have to make that at least a questionable endorsement as I don't know why they got banned. Another responder says they were hit or miss.

Guess I'll keep digging a bit. The knife I am looking at is out of stock anyway so no rush.

Knifecenter.com and bladehq.com are both forum sponsors and reputable dealers. It might be worth checking with one of them to get their opinion before ordering just in case they stock them but aren't impressed with them.

They're a reputable dealer, but that doesn't mean they won't stock knives simply because they know people will buy them. They can't make false claims as to their quality though because so many customers are bf members who know about good knives.
From the pictures I've seen the fit and finish looks well above the typical pak junk, but who knows about performance and edge holding.

Buck N Bear knives are made in Pakistan, but they are not your typical Pakimascus stuff. The company is run by a pair of brothers, one in PA and one in Pakistan.

They are reputable. There are the usual growing pains as they try to carve out a niche for themselves. They are pretty easy to reach on social media in particular.

They have made their fixed blades in house since the beginning, and while they used to farm out their folders to a chinese company, their technical manufacturing ability has progressed to where they are now making their folders in house as well.

Interesting. Thank you for the insight. I found their website and lurked about for a bit. Just on the basis of that, it's easy to write them off as another importer, so it's refreshing to find out that there is somebody at each end of the pipeline, making sure things are done correctly. Pattern-welded steel isn't really my thing, but now I want to see what happens.
