Buck's 110 with d2 steel at work

I do like seeing those Buck knives doing what they are made to do .

And I bet it does it very well too , way to go David .

Yes, it divided up this whole chicken real nice, then I seasoned it and on the grill it went. We had a memorable supper. Thanks, DM

David do you like the d2 steel?I know my 118 i got from member postfallsidaho is one of my favorite knives,i bet the 110 is sweet!

Yes, Bear, a 110 with D2 steel. Better contact the club and see if you can steal one. The hollow grind is better on the 110 than I found on my 118 with D2. After using it to cut, I found it cuts well. It's not a magical light saber. When sharp it cuts, as well as a sharp 3 dot 110. I'd have more knowledge of it's characteristics after cutting up a dozen whole fryers than merely one. So, I'm working on it. Still, as yet I've not found a item of concern with it. I'm not giving it special treatment, just the normal manner of cutting up a chicken. I pushed it thru several bones and examined it afterward and found no burrs. When finished I washed it well, dried it and returned it to it's sheath. All normal conduct for me. I'll let you know if it needs mineral oil in between. Thanks, DM

Thank you Mr. David.
D2 is a rare steel to find Buck knives made of , I would like some day to buy one Buck knife with the blade made of that steel.
I like that kind of photos when the knife is in the working process.

Gary, Your welcome. It is a nice steel to have on one of your knives and on hand to use. Thanks, DM

David, do you get the feeling that D2 cuts, wears and sharpens similarly to the old 440C?

I've often heard it compared to 440C in terms of the carbides.

Thanks

I put a convex edge on my 118 d2,makes a wicked edge on it and really performs on whitetail deer with the convex edge.

On your first question: I think it does. I'll know more after using it more.
On your second statement: With 440C having a higher percent chromium this should be reflected in the way it cuts. I don't think 440C has large carbides because good heat-treat with a cryogenic cycle can effect this. Still, 440C makes more noise during cutting than D2 and this suggests the later to have smaller carbides. Yet, D2 has the vanadium and less chromium so, this should give it a different carbide.
More later, DM
