Talk to me about Buck's D2. What do think of it as a user. I like Buck's 420 and love their S30v. I have no experience with D2 at all. The 110 and 112 that Silver Knight releases looks like a great all a rounder with the flat grind. Honestly something I've thought would be cool for years. I didn't know they existed until this week. So what thoughts on D2. Durability. Ease or difficulty of sharpening . Edge retention? Etc?

Thanks. That answers a lot. There are so many Bucks out right now that have caught my eye.

The flat grind blade on these feel noticeably thicker and more robust than the normal hollow grind.

One of favorites is the Buck 110 D2 from SK Blades. Fit and finish is unbelievable.

I have used my 110 w/ D2 blade numerous times for various cutting chores. It preformed well, holding a good edge that does not chip or curl and seems to have good toughness. It does need some mineral oil on it after cleaning. I sharpen it on a Norton fine India and it takes a good more coarse edge. It would be rare that I go higher than a 400 grit edge. Some D2 steels depending on heat treat like a more refined edge. This one in the 58-59 rc range likes a more coarse edge. Hope you enjoy it.
Last years meat in the freezer project, supervised by my 110 w/ D2 blade. DM

Another item I used my 110 w/ D2 blade to cut was insulation. Which is very degrading on a knifes edge. The battings were R13 so about 3 1/2" X 15". This blade made 12-13 cuts on these before I noticed it not slicing as well. This is about double what I get from 420. Here's the building being constructed. Even after dulling it I had no problem bringing the edge back on a SiC stone.DM
