Bucks edges

Every buck I've ever got has been very sharp it shaves hair cuts paper but what I do like is that the edge is always so toothy.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is why don't buck polish there edges.

I'm guessing they do it for edge retention. A less toothy or polished edge has to be honed much finer and a finer edge is a little less durable.

It's also cheaper not to polish the edges, something the user can do themselves if they so desire. Look at the sharpeners Buck promotes, grits don't get too high on those... *shrug*

goush darn .... yep if they was to polish the edge they might be sharper ...
but then lota folks could not sharpen them themselves right...
carbon steel takes a sharper edge then stainless any day...
but will rust.. unless it is polished to real bright mirror finish
so ... what the heck ...
does any one think Buck should make a 110 blade in carbon steel?

M2 steel would work out nicely.

I'd buy a 110 with a drop point carbon steel blade in half a heart beat ... or when ever payday would cover the purchase ...

Buck offered hard Arkansas stones for years. Which got it to 900-1000 grit. This seems high to me. Way higher than needed. DM

1000 grit is perfect to me

Seems to me that out of factory it's about 300 grit

600 grit I think would be better "happy medium" but I'm just being picky lol

I think I really started this thread out curiosity to see if there were any one else out there who thought it would be nicer to have a more polish edge out of factory

Hmm I Wonder if I should start a poll?

I do not know the grit size but I have had very good luck with Spyderco ceramic bench stones. They give a nice fine edge.
