Hi yas DoodleBug. I hope your cuts weren't too bad!

I didn't get a Buck this past Christmas. Knife that is.

But I gave my Grandson a 112 with his birth year tang stamp. 112-

He is 15 now and is slowly learning to deal with his autism, with the loving care and help of his parents.

After I explained the year codes and tang stamps, he was really excited about his 112. And the fact that I had smoothed out all the scratches and had it all polished up and looking like a new one. He couldn't believe it was as old as he was.

and just as a tidbit,,,he just won 4th place in his class at the Houston Fat Stock Show. He was showing his Brangus heifer.

So there's ya a Buck knife story! :D:D

Glad to see you pop in here!!

I gave a Buck 119 to my grand father this past Christmas. He went fishing yesterday for the first time since Christmas. I called him wanting to know if he used the Buck 119. He said no, He just used the knife he had in his pocket to clean the fish.

Hey Doodle! Where ya' been?
Sorry about those cuts and I hope they weren't bad ones, but now you respect those blades a little more, huh?
First off, don't let Gramps and great (well, mediocre anyway :) ) Uncle Dave let you think Bucks are just for Christmas or Easter. Every day is a Buck Day....or can be! :)
What do like in the fixed-blade Buck line-up? I think you could use some infleunce in that arena as I tend to believe Gramps and Uncle are kinda 'swayed' toward folded?

Dave

I just asked her mom if she could have one........".It has to have a snaped "sleve" so it cant just come out" and be a small one...What is the smallest fixed blade Buck ever made????? Britty,MOM SAID ITS OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Super Pap will fix you up honey,LOVE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Nice Clint! Good call, Larry!
Take good care of that 102, Doodle, and you'll be giving it to your daughter one day! It will serve you very well indeed!

Dave

So the 102 is the smallest fixed blade Buck has ever made????? I dont think Ive ever seen one....

The 102 is about 7 3/4 oal with about a 3 7/8 inch blade. Which is about 1/2 inch oal shorter than a 110, but weighs less than half of a 110.

Will make her a good fixed blade.

and remember,,,,,you only collect 112's...:p

someone post up a pic of a 110, 112, and a 102 laid out together. This Klink is the only 102 I have and wouldn't want doodles to expect that as being a normal 102.

maybe the smallest fixed blade hunting knife, but not the smallest fixed blade. The 107 (I believe is the number) is about half inch shorter than the 102

the 107 is the same as the smallest knife in the Empress Trio set. If I have that number right.

You have your numbers in order, Larry, but I would not go for the 107 for a couple of reasons. Listening Clint?
The 107 is light, fast, and doesn't have a snap-close sheath. Remember what MOM said.......Listening Doodle?
Two more disqualifiers of the 107; find one under $100 that isn't beat or sheathless and the most important reason for not thinking 107 Scout here........no finger guard! A new knife user may push a little hard on an early adventure and pull away a cut-up paw when their hand slips down the blade. We already did a slice or two, right Doodle? The 102 is in the $35-40 range, has the MOM-approved sheath, isn't a collectable discontinued model when bought in Post Falls-made form, are found from lots of sources, is light and fast but substantial and sturdy, is replaceable if need be, comes in a BR (brass-cocobolo color) and standard phenolic/aluminum. and can handle about anything you would expect to throw at a fixed-blade except the heavier chores. Skin a deer or peel and apple, the 102 is a great choice Doodle! And your fingers are gonna stay behind the guard, Kid!

Oh I agree fully on staying with the 102. I was just saying that the 107 is smaller since he did ask what the smallest fixed blade was.

No, the 107 is not a hunting knife as far as I am concerned. I should have explained further.
Thanks for doing so!

Oh, I know Larry! I just had to work on that carpal-tunnel thingy and do a dissertation on the merits of the 102.
Just taking your ball and running...
If memory serves, it seems to me the first Pairing knife 107s were marketed to trail walkers and woods loafer and hill climbers for a small and unobtrusive backpack knife if those folks were to need a blade. A niche for a pairing knife and the Scout was born!

here is a Pic of a 102 next to a 112, and a Kershaw that is the same size as a 110.
