Something just struck me while browsing through the new 2011 catalog. On page 58 they advertise "Customize Any Knife". At first glance, I think, Special Projects knives that can be ordered in quantity like many companies do. Reading further, I see where it says you can start with any appropriate knife and they will customize it for you. They specificly mention birthdays, anniversary's and weddings. Now I don't see someone ordering a bunch of "Birthday" etc. knives so I have to assume they would do one on special order. I does say that minimums are required for "SOME" of these projects.

What do you think??

Plumber, I took that to mean they could do a one or ten etched blades for a award knife for a office or department that were high group for quarterly sales or someone retiring, ect.. But yes this seems different . DM

Yeah, most folks only retire once! They couldn't expect you to order a bunch of them for that unless they were just a generic "Happy Retirement" knife. :)

I am thinking that the birthday engraved knife could be "custom" made, but the gold etched knives would be minimum orders? Maybe we can get a Plumbers/Steamfitters gold etch done :D

I ordered a 110 from their custom shop last week to replace the old 2 dot that I used and abused on my construction jobs for several decades.

I'll never get rid of that 2 dot, but I thought a 110 that was built just for me would see me through the next 35 years in what I hope to be a very active retirement. :p

I think they call those "Rite of Passage" type knives, and you can dress up existing production knives only. No blade or inlay changes can be done:(

If it is lasering or engraving a name on something, ones/twosy are fine. If you want a 501 with a s30v blade and ironwood inlays, 250 minimum

If you read closely, it was mentioned in the 2010 catalog too. I contacted them about it last year and since it was pre-Christmas they said could do it, but I may wish to consider a local engraver to save time, shipping, etc.
