Has anyone gotten their hands on the new 5160 ground combat knives? Also I assume since they are considered "tactical" they won't be on the Buck website for sale? They look amazing and the sheaths look much improved. I am trying to decide between the Tanto and straight blade spear point. BTW is there a way to have a Christmas club account from your paycheck to just buy Buck knives? JK. It is good to see Buck listening and innovating with there lines of knives.

Buck's website is never complete for full product line. "Tactical" would have nothing to do with that. Buying direct is never the best deal.. always full MSRP because Buck will not undercut its dealer network. Check out the online dealers. The Buck 2020 dealer catalog is available digitally on the website and the GCK knives are on page 52/53. It is also possible that they are not available yet. Grand Prairie shows them as "coming soon".

not yet but have ordered one through the bcci buying program.

dont know. Buck may sell online themselves, may not. through dealers will be better deals.

yes. its called a savings account or budgeting.:D

agreed. I like that Buck tackles and makes different than just their classics. many here dont and that's okay, but I do.

I was slightly contemplating the spearpoint not really my style of knife but was kinda liking it as something different. Didnt notice that it was 5160, so I will pass.

When you say buying program do you mean call your order in to Buck and give them your BCCI number?

wasnt talking that but could do that if they sold it direct or will, meant through Larry at bcci buying program. I'll pm ya if youre interested.

That's ok, a big part of my loyalty to Buck is stainless steel. They can change, but I ain't. I have some carbon steel knives and the only reason I still have them is for sentimental value.

Looking forward to the tanto model when they are released. And in case your wondering here is a picture from the catalog.

Seeing as how I are a "civilian", and much too ancient (and physically decrepit) to change that status, I don't foresee my needing a "Ground Combat Knife".

Also, I have zero training in knife fighting, so it would probably be best if I didn't take that up, considering my current level of incompetence. :)

still just a well made cutting tool with certain features.....name is more marketing leaning, imho. any fixed or folding blade can be called tactical....didnt vietnam guys sometimes carry, as a random example, a 110 and/or a 119. wasnt built to be a tactical knife and not my first pick for a tactical knife but cuts and works. so...... just a thought on it.

I'm not sure I would pick a tanto style blade for a ground combat situation.
I would also prefer a finger guard as opposed to a finger groove....
But then I don't wander around dressed in fatigues looking for a fight.

I'm sure no one feels like a winner after a knife fight. But if someone is coming for you it beats a sharp stick. Still, I recommend a firearm and voting at the polls to keep that option available.

Very cool knife. Not sure if it's for me, but I love tanto blades and that might sway me to purchase that one. I understand a lot of people don't care for them but in my opinion they excel and do a heck of a job for what they were designed to do–stab and puncture. Also if you've never owned a tanto, it'll challenge your ability on knife sharpening (what fun!). If you can sharpen a tanto the right way, you can sharpen anything.
