I've recently become somewhat enamored of buckshot bone handled folders, based only on pictures that I've seen. However everything I've seen is either a Colt or a Rough Rider. I've never owned either brand but both are pretty reasonably priced. I'm just curious as to how they compare from a quality perspective.

I hear lots of lots of folks on the forum endorsing the Rough Riders as a darn good value. I also heard that Colt was no longer making knives since they came out of bankruptcy. However there seems to be stock still available. Can anyone recommend one over the other?

I can recommend the Rough Rider.
SMKW lost the license for the COLT name, but they have rebranded some of the Colt knives they made as Rough Rider to keep them in production. The Buckshot Bone and Carbon Steel models come to mind.
The Rough Rider compares favorably to CASE. (IMHO they exceed CASE for quality, most of the time.) In the ROUGH RIDER AND RELATED thread, some say the Rough Riders they own are sometimes equal to or better than the Queen and GEC they own. I would not know about that, since I have never owned (or even seen in the flesh, for that matter) either GEC or QUEEN.

The Rough Rider knives tend to be bulkier than Queen, Case or the other makers but still are a good value. They have a new carbon steel line in addition to their extensive line of of 440A stainless knives. For the price, they are a terrific way to check out a pattern to see if you like it! However, don't expect the high level of finish you will see on knives such as GEC.

So do the Colts and Rough Riders come out of the same Chinese manufacturing facility?
