does anyone know anything about the quality of these blades from bud k? im just wondering how good a $30 sword can be. can they even hold a blade decently? im not looking for a seriously high quality blade, obviously, but some of their items look decent enough, and the price tag is definantly appealing, but would they be even moderately functional?

If it sounds to good to be true, it probably isn't worth your time! But it will always nag at you. Try one & see if it meets your requirements. Just don't go overboard!

Oh God, no! Stay away from BudK unless you want flea market garbage. Seriously, 99% of the stuff in their catalogue is pure rubbish. :barf: It's your money to do with what you please, but if you plan on actually using the sword, look elsewhere. If you just want to hang it up on a wall, then it doesn't matter. Budk is king at selling cheap ripoffs and other imported junk.

Just recently I had the chance to handle one of those $30 Katana wallhangers. At the same store I also was given the opportunity to handle a $1200 one. In my opinion the $1200 one was a bargain, the one for $30 was overpriced. As was stated by Cosmic Superchunk, these swords are nothing more than wall-hangers.

thanks guys, i figured as much. im not really a hardcore blademaster or anything, so i dont need anything high quality. if i do get anything, it probably wont be doing much more than hanging on my wall anyway. in my case, a thousand dollar sword might be more of a waste of money since it wouldnt be used extensively, correctly, or be cared for well.

Yeah, I tend to think of most of what Bud K offers as rubbish. They do offer some "real" knives at standard retail prices (like the S+W SWAT) but all in all they are cheap flea market knives... which have thier place.

I do like buying cheap knives once in a while... I live in an area where just about EVERY knife isn't just flat-out illegal, but owning it is evidence of mental instability... But I digress... Cheap knives allow me to experiment with what's available, and to "practice" things like hard use, sharpening techniques and so on without wrecking my $80 new folder... you know. Granted, I rarely but cheap knives anymore... but there ya go...

Its rubbish unless you want totally disposable knives...

My dad orders from Bud K all the time and he has given me a couple of the knives and I just toss them in a drawer there junk 90 + percent of what they carry is junk.My dad is blind and has lost most of his hearing and about the most stubborn person you would ever want to meet.So I dont argue with him about it or try to change his mind. You can save yourself throw away the bud k catalog and forget about them:D ........R

I would rather buy a slightly more expensive sword from Atlanta Cutlery. At least it's metal that even looks like it can take an edge. Really cheap stuff looks like trash in a hurry.

Actually, I've been thinking about getting a few swords from Atl. Cutl. -- their wooden practice swords. I handled one at the Blade Show and it was fun to play with.
