Since my last couple of major knife purchases especially being my DR XL Apogees' #19S & #20S, I have found myself looking at the knives I have been using in the past now in a whole new / different light!

A buddy of mine always admired the knives I have always carried, but he himself wasn't and really isn't in shape to purchase these types of knives himself at the prices they are going for. Well, my MicroTech SOCOM M/A, Benchmade Stryker, Mission MPF-Ti, Emerson Commander, Spyderco Military, and Bechmade Pinnacle, the ones I have been carring I let go to him for a mere fraction of what they cost. He couldn't believe he was getting all these knives for what I let him have them for. Actually, I took a 75% loss from what I originally spent on them.

Well, knowing he wanted them so much & I needed some cash to help defray the costs I have spent lately, and also now having my Apogee with me, those knives only seemed proper to let go.

Did I do the right thing, or was I KNUTS!

Hello Mark,

I think that was a very wonderful thing you done for your friend!!!! I'm sure he appreciated it more then you will ever know!

I have a younger brother who really likes knives, not as much as myself, but he really likes looking and playing with mine. Last year he was going through some financial troubles, so, for Christmas I bought him a Buck 110 from Pete's Custom Shoppe... Very sweet knife!!!! Buffalo horn handle, BG 42 blade, nickel silver blosters.... very sweet!!!! I tell you what, you would have thought I gave him a new Corvette... Still to this day I cannot talk him into using the knife. He does love it though, and it really made me happy that I was able to get it for him!

GeneL74, it does make you feel good inside.
That must have been a real treat for you to do that for your brother, gave him the best of materials too I see!

Any passion is better if it's shared, and you may have just created another knifenut. The only times I sell one of my knives is if I never carry it anymore, and then I almost always sell it to a knifeless buddy at a greatly reduced price. There are now 3 more knifenuts at work, all started from my castoffs. I've never regreted any of my sales.

I've given my closest friend a couple of my lower end auto's because I knew he wouldn't spend the money himself. Made me feel good, and now when he wants to "core a apple" he doesn't have to ask me for mine! Plus, the look on his face was worth 10 times the price of the knife. Knives come and go (oh brother do they!), but good friends can last your whole life.

No!! You should have sold them to me!!! Heck yeah, you did a good thing. Excuse me if say "DUH". I'm sure you're friend greatly appreciates your kindness, and not only that, now he has a chance to truly appreciate well made knives.

I just sold a knife, and the buyer offered me more than I thought it was worth, so I said "how about..." and, needless to say, he was happy.

Yep Mark, It really made me feel good being able to get my brother a high quality knife that he probably would have never bought for himself, even if he could have afforded it.... You know what I am talking about though.... Truly a noble thing you done.... My hat is off to you! Take care!

Seriously though, I think that was a very generous thing you did, and I'm also glad you've shared it with us here.
