Budget etching?

I was curious...I am thinking of finishing up some small madPoet custom blades for gifts in my wedding (next year)...to add to them, I would like to etch something on the blades, but I need to know the best way to do it/have it done on a budget. Ideally, some knifemaker would donate his services to help a fellow Forumite out, but back into reality, I would entertain doing it myself, too. Whaddya ya think?

Perhaps you can use this information on DIY etching. The translation from Japanese is a little rough, but certainly understandable.
