Budget kitchen knife with effective food release?

My wife recently mentioned that she would LOVE a nice santoku/chefs sized knife that had a granton edge that actually released most foods reliably. Right now we have a victorinox 7in santoku with the granton edge, but it doesn't seem to affect food release at all.

So I'm just curious if there are any budget (lets say less than $100 for sure) kitchen knives out there that are known to be good at this, or if there is anything simple I can do to the current Santoku to try and increase its ability to release food from the face of the blade.

Figured I'd ask the experts :).

Thanks for the help.

Been a fan of the 6 1/2" santoku from MAC's pro series. I'm not a fan of granton, but with the ones on this I can't even tell their there. Should be in your budget, and will last a long time if taken care of.
