Bought this on a whim this weekend as another user knife. The more I played with it, used it, the more I was impressed. 4" beautiful stone washed clip point. Triad lock. Very grippy GRN. Very thin. Very lightweight. 3.4 oz. Can't tell it's in my pocket. Blade steel is 4034. (Yes very simple low end steel) Cut with it quite a bit. Cuts great. It's about like 420. Super easy to sharpen of course and takes a very keen edge. It was like 42.00. Throw one in the truck or kitchen or whatever. Pretty damn good. Capable and solid.

Tri-ad lock is my favorite , and the size / overall knife design is nice .

I could even live with the scales GRN .

The steel just doesn't appeal to me .

So many better choices , even for a value / budget folder .

It looks like the thumb studs get the heck out of the way too. Thanks for the heads up on a nice budget option.

The steel isn't much of an issue for me because if my blade touches anything, it gets stropped/touched up. If it's one of my 20cv/Elmax/S35vn knives or one of my 8cr/420/14c28n knives. This 4034 steel would probably make 80-100 cuts or a little more before it loses a paper slicing edge. I bet 90% or more don't open that many boxes/envelopes/cut peices of rope in a day. Besides I always have a couple knives on me. Today I have the range boss in one pocket an an Endela in K390 in the other. All good lol.

They changed the name on the Broken Skull and the steel from CTS-XHP . I have the BS in orange and grey. Great knives only needed to use the orange, so far.

Nice sharpening job. The blade doesn’t look like it’s been touched.

Only did a few touch up passes. And stropped after I cut. That's all it needed--really didn't need that but thanks lol No matter what/where you post on the internet, there's always at least one assclown that will comment.

Yes the cold steel Broken Skull was very similar with better materials. I never got one of those. I wish they still made it, minus the name. I would by this one again in S35vn in a heartbeat.

30 bucks more used to get you G10, CTS-XHP, an assortment of colors, and DLC coating.

The design and profile is pretty great overall though. I can see why they made an entry level model.

I have the broken skull and I actually like this better, the range boss feels a little more substantial, thick, and tougher built. If they'd make one in S35VN or XHP, I'd be all over it.

I want this bad in one of those steels yes.

Do these have any liners, partial or otherwise?
This knife does not have any steel liners. It's got the GRN scales and it has a long back spacer that runs from the triad lock button all the way to the end. The first thing I did was press hard on the scales. It feels very solid. Does not press in like a bugout. It feels much more solid then that. Pinching hard in the middle gets just a little bit of flex. I think down the spine, with the triad steel halfway down the knife and the solid back spacer the rest of the way it's pretty solid construction. I did some pretty hard (thick card board) cutting and you dont feel any give. Also did some very hard slashing cuts and it felt solid as a rock and made good deep cuts. Did this several times and it was good to go. Through all this it continues to impress. Especially for like 40 bucks.
