Hi, I was wondering if you guys knew of any good camp/survival knifes for $50 and under. Would like it to b a pretty hefty thick blade from 6 1/2 - 9 inches. That's just a preference, could be different. Would b used for chopping and maybe batoning.
Thanks

Does a plain old ka-bar meet your needs? Not sure why it's slightly above your price range now. Bought one for 35 a few years ago. Check for used ones maybe.

I would suggest something smaller for camping though.

Maybe a Mora Bushcraft or a Schrade SCHF10. Both fall into the price range you want. They're different in design and you might like one of them.

A Buck 119 has a 6" blade. On-line price is about $50. It's a good general purpose camp knife, though I don't know about chopping and batoning. Those activities were never considered "general camp chores" in any of my camps.

The Ontario Gen II knives with Kraton handles and 5160 steel are great for the $$. I sent you an email, Ryan.

Hey guys thanks for the ideas I'll looks into all of them, also Id like to kno of a good strong Bowie knife around the same price range. Thanks

I think that's a great suggestion. I used one as a camp/hunting/canoeing/hiking knife for about 20 years. I have used it to do some very light splitting to make tent stakes, no batoning. However, I can tell you that it will easily split a deer pelvis with a few whacks on the blade with a stout stick. No damage to the knife. Plenty of belly in the blade for all kinds of slicing tasks which make it a good all around camper, too.

My only complaint... the slick handles. Great when things are dry and you aren't too sweaty. I have a hard time gripping the handle when wet or it has blood on it. But a friend of mine cured that problem by putting a couple of strips of skateboard tape on his handle, and it works great.

I don't think you would regret this knife as a great worker.

Any one know of a good sturdy Bowie for around $50? Or a good camp knife around the same price with a 6"-8" blade
