I`ve decided to do a poll to see what other blade shapes to make the Budget Series Knives in. The drop point is already covered, so I`m going to see what else might be wanted. Please post why you chose what you did. You may choose more than one.

My vote is for a straight back blade. I could use a straight back JK.
Really ill vote for anything but Tanto. Cant stand the Tanto... I have my reasons! :p

This is a difficult one...

The semi wharncliffe and (straight) clip aren't That far from a drop point.

Wharncliffe has a Great utilitarian shape and is people friendly, and is Very easy to sharpen.

Straight back is a Fantastic slicer and a shape most are familiar with, as well a giving the least learning curve to use most effectively.

Bowie looks bad ass while still being a Great shape and with the upturned clip it is great for delicate work, especially since the clip allows for a natural place to rest your pointer when skinning or zipping a fish open.

Tanto... so, this has some Really nice utility factors to it, you can sharpen each bevel to different, the tip is great for scraping, scoring sheetrock, and other general construction duties. It also holds up well for garden usage where you can just push cut or nip at a fruit/veg to snip the stem.

semi-wharn, because it's a great utility shape for jobs that don't require a really sharp point, including food prep (mini-santoku, anyone?)
straight back, because that's going to come out very similar to a puukko, which is a very popular style with the "bushcraft" crowd currently.

I vote bowie too, a 3 inch, 01 steel, JK, in a bowie style blade shape sounds interesting. And then clip, just cause it my favorite.

What is the blade length on the worker?

Do you have a drawing or something with the basic blade shapes so we know what you mean when you say a certain shape? Personally I don't know what a straight back means. Someone else likened it to a puukko. I do know I'm very partial to a drop point but like you said - already in the works.

I have thought a straight back akin to "the worker" blade shape of the most recent auctioned one. It is also know as a trailing point, but a trailing can also be up swept like "the galley wag" which can lead to confusion .

For this poll I think the Straight back has just that, a straight spine, a little flat (1"-2" or so) in front of the ricasso then a belly up to the tip, length of flat is dependant on blade length)

My stated version is just for reference, since you know the worker, you can picture it easier. For those that don't I stated it as basic layout.

First blank will be heat treating tomorrow. These are full size knives, 8" overall, with a 3 3/4" blade.
(this was for the drop point, so I am not sure the sizing for future knives)

A photo of "The Worker" for blade shape frame of reference.
