Budget sharpening system

OK so the highest grit I have is I think 600 but it might only be 400. I have one of the Bronco double sided whetstones. It's been fine and it can put a decent edge on there, but it doesn't hold it super well because it's only a toothy edge.

So for around $50 bucks is there anything that could put a shaving sharp edge on my knives? I'd prefer diamond stones but if this is an unrealistic budget please feel free to recommend whatever and I can pick and choose. Thanks guys

The lansky diamond stone system can be had for around that budget and worked well for me for quite some time until I wanted an upgrade and bought a kme

I'd recommend the Spyderco Sharpmaker at ~$55-65. I also eventually caved and bought a KME, but still use the Sharpmaker.

I started a thread about the Sharpmaker about a month ago. From what I heard its better for keeping your knives sharp not making them sharp because its only a 20 degree angle which isn't practical for the various things I have. (2 machetes, Gerber Strongarm, PM2, Kershaw Shuffle II, SAK Fisherman etc.) I'm liking the Lansky so far at $35 or the diamond version at 50. Anyone else have suggestions?
