Hey all, I am curious if Spyderco will be releasing anymore budget priced knives, for example the Centofante 3, Tenacious etc.. in the $50 and under range??

thanks!

I'm just talking about new models in general. On a side note, what do you guys think is a better knife, the tenacious or centofante 3? I watched youtube videos and saw the tenacious lost edge after cutting alot of wood, but the centofante is more of a light use blade..

I'd say the blade steel on the Centofante is superior and will hold an edge longer, but the Tenacious is a more robust knife overall. It's kinda comparing apples and oranges. Those two knives aren't really comparable to one another. They were designed with different uses in mind. Having said that, iirc the Centofante did quite well on that youtube wood cutting review.

How about a Tenacious and Persistance with VG-10? That could probably come in at under $50 "street price".

The Tenacious is a great value that could be a great knife with a good blade. At under $50 in VG-10 it would be a bargain and sell like hotcakes.

I would be all over a VG-10 tenacious. Seriously, I'd buy several. What are the odds of this happening though?

You know, after buying a loaf of italian bread for $4.29 at the grocery store today I think the days of under $50-60 EDC knives is over. Smaller, Ladybug class knives perhaps, as well as the excellent Byrd line, but not the big Delica/Endura class knivers.

It's just time. That they remained at essentially the same levels for decades is nothing short of amazing. Time, costs, inflation, and dollar valuations have finally gotten to where we will see the higher prices that Spyderco put off for years.

My opinion. I have no inside knowledge. I just see what's happening to everything else. They will do their best to provide for different price ranges without lessening quality, which is what we want in the long run.

My first spyderco in 91-92 cost $42-45 dollars for a FRN, Gin 1 Endura. Now, a better model is still in the $50's. to 60's That's amazing! Joe

I agree with Mastiff. Sadly prices are just going up. I have to commend Spyderco for keeping their price point where they have for years. When you look at Benchmade for example you will see higher prices for (IMHO) much the same quality knife.

I also think if you slap a full flat ground VG-10 blade on a 39.00 Tenacious it will certainly raise the price. These days I consider the new VG-10 stretch and Manix II a value folder.

Yea thanks guys, seems solid for the company to hold their prices unlike other manufacturers. I guess it sucks being poor and jobless lol, being a recent grad makes prices seem so much higher. Ebay hunting and keeping an eye on amazon is probably what I will do, although I hate the stress of bidding.

Yeah, we need a steel upgrade on the Tenacious. That is my ONLY problem with it if we got S30V or VG-10 it would never leave my pocket.

Hi Eneyman,

We were poor and jobless when we began Spyderco. America is a great place to strive.

Sal is coming out with FRN UKPK's and I hear FRN Manix 2 & Paramils are in the works.

I would imagine they will be available for $40-60 at retail point. :)

How cool is it that the president and founder of the best production knife company on earth hangs out with the schlubs on Bladeforums. Well speaking for myself, not anyone else here! ;)

This is one of the reasons why Spyderco will get 95% of my knife dollars. The other reasons are design, value, function, and quality.

+1  Sal's contribution and commitment to the knife community is a true testament to his character.

Alas, rising prices are a fact of life and it is proper that Spyderco passes on their increased costs of manufacturing to the consumer. Why? I would rather pay a bit more for a product, rather than have cost increases passed on by way of reduced material and manufacturing quality. A CF Millie is not inexpensive, but in my mind, it is one of the best values out there due to it's quality of manufacture, materials and design.

In the final analysis, we will each determine if a knife is worth the price. So far, I have yet to see a Spyderco that is not a good value.
