Hi guys, never tried a flipper yet. I've been looking at the kershaw groove and the kershaw JYD II

any opinions on those knives / more ideas?

are there any with carbon steel? I'll probably just buy an opinel to get my carbon fix for now.

the JYD's are awesome. one of my favorite kershaws

i have to agree with gundude, the jyd's are awesome...the composite blade version in his picture is particularly sweet! also, the kershaw skyline is a great flipper at around $30 and so are the buck vantage selects. all of them deploy well with the flipper, but i find that the large model flips faster and a bit smoother than my smaller model. they are also very afforable at under $25.

I held a skyline and It's way too small for my meat hooks. seemed like a good little knife though.

Kershaw Clash is a nice flipper speed assist for the money. Kershaw makes several so it depends on what price range you are wanting to spend. Good Luck! Kevin :D

then you should deffinately check out a large vantage select, or avid....or pro:D depending on your price point. bigger than the skyline and its a great knife for the money. completely solid lock-up, very smooth and fast. just a nice knife overall.

For around $50 the Kershaw Ram, Kershaw Lahar, Kershaw Packrat. The Lahar is a good size knife. Also the Buck Vantage with S30V is a REAL SMOOTH flipper. Good Luck! Kevin

Plenty of good suggestions so far. How about the OD-1? You can get it with black or orange G-10 handles. Plus, its a framelock.

You can't get a much better flipper then the Kershaw RAM. It shoot open like it's spring driven. The Groove and the JYD are great flippers, too. All three have a different kind of flip to them so buy one of each. :D

kershaw ram HANDS DOWN!!! best flipper ive flipped so far

I like the skyline cuz of the weight. I''d like it more if it was an assisted open like the leek better.

Sounds like the JYD II composite blade is your knife, flipper, carbon alloy tool steel, about 60 bucks.

The JYD II is a beast! I recommend that and/or the Skyline. The skyline is very light and easy to carry. Both are fun to flip open.

The Buck Vantage is a great flipper knife as well. I carry the small pro model almost every day. The larger on flips open a lot easier though.
