First of all Welcome to the Cantina Willrise.:D
Dayum, the title concerned me because I thought maybe someone had posted another pic of a buffalo calf getting it's head chopped off and I'd have to move it, glad to see it wasn't.  :D

Second, yes, HI does make a Janawar Katne also known as a Buff Head sometimes.
I don't know if it's listed on the HI website but if it isn't you can email Miss Yangdu and inquire as to the cost and size.
All I know is that it is *One Big Honkin Khukuri*!!!!!
And that it is way too big for any practical work unless you're Andre' the Giant or built like him.
They are interesting as a museum piece though.;)

Wow, that is news to me Yvsa! I had no idea HI had ever made one or offered one for sale, or I may have looked into it. I'm sure it's not on the website anywhere, or I would have tried to track it down believe me. There are several past runs listed that I have tried hard to get with mixed success, and that particular one is not listed. But I'm still a newbie here I guess and don't know anything that went on before late 2003.

I have one from NKH that is a handy 50" long and a well-balanced 154 oz., with a Rosewood handle and scrolled buttcap, and fully engraved blade. Very pretty and very unique. A more useful size is their Long Dragon ceremonial at 26" and 45 oz., which is a lighter version of the HI Father AK that I have at 25" and 58 oz.

The Long Dragon is used for goats, and to my mind the HI Bag Bhairab ceremonial at 22" and between 30-38 oz. would be a much better choice all around for that task. I haven't decapitated any goats lately though, so that is just my impression.

I use the Buff Head ceremonial to open refrigerator cartons and stuff like that, but it usually ruins the contents. ;) :D Also, it is a pain to wear on my belt, as it always seems to pull my pants down.

"Literally “animal cutter.” Khukuris of this size are primarily produced for the tourist market. For actual sacrifices, somewhat smaller khukuris are usually used. HW "

"....... If she was approached she would reach under her anghi (long Sherpa dress) and whip out her little khukuri. Her stock phrase was, "if you want to keep that hand then keep it off me."

That one in the pic does look to be about 3' long, assuming the woman is about 5' 3" or so. That looks like more of an actually useful two handed blade than the 50" one I have. It is purely a wall hangar, but fun to play with.

Norm, if I'm not mistaken that is Miss Yangdu holding that Janawar Katne. It's off the HI Website.;) :D

!! That site has more twists and turns. I don't recall seeing that before at all. I guess I have spent most of my time at the online store, and did not see this advertised there.

Yangdu looks like she is going to be toppled over by this one, but she does have a good grip on it! Not really your EDC kukri...

I have a 2nd hand sacraficial kuk in the pipeline by Windlass Steelcrafts. This being the size used for the actual buffalo beheadings.
from the auction:
This Massive knife(which is more like a sword) is an oversized version of the standard kukri. In a yearly ceremony the regiment picks the strongest man and attempts to cut the head off a water buffalo in a single stroke; success means good luck for the year.

This weapon is produced by Windlass Steelcrafts of high carbon steel. The blade is 3/8 inch thick and 2.5 feet long, and weighs 4lbs 6 ozs. These weapons are limited production since only one is issued to each regiment.

Right now, I can't imagine holding a kuk that weighs twice as much as my 2 pound "Made In India" POS. Speaking of which I proved today that brown tripolli buffing compound is really poor at removing rust. :(

I can remember my stepson at the theatrical release of Apocalypse Now (1979), he was about 13 at the time, watching the buffalo beheading and yelling "Wow, you can see all the way inside."

Janawar has been made up to 42". I once asked about having one made and what size it would be. Bill said that we just order the khukuri and they make it whatever size they want. It's a rare piece to get made, so it varies wildly between the kamis.

The truck springs come in different size, but can be quite large. A buddy has some that are 4 inches wide, 1/2" thick and at least 4 feet between the mounting holes.
