Here is an order I just shipped out to a customer, forged from 5160 with a framed buffalo horn handle and brass fittings. The blade is four inches and handle four and on half inches.

Great lookin blade. Ive been thinking of using some buffalo horn for a little bit now. It really has a nice look to it. Any major tricks or advice.

Hi Quint, Thanks, I have made a couple of knives with buffalo horn over the last year and the only advice I would offer is the same I would give for stag or bone use sharp bits and fresh paper and lots of patience. You don't want to over heat it and pushing the bit through can fracture the horn, it is fairly stable and robust, as you can see I did work the pins in close tolerance to the edge, once it is attached to the handle frame or the fill tang it is very stable. Once finish sanded it buffs out very nicely, I use green rouge first and finish with a pink no scuff to bring out a nice sheen. Good luck and have fun.
