I took a busman's holiday after a 60 hour week playing catchup with leather orders and got the first half of this CactusRose pair finished - It's the "sticker" half of an 1850's style buffalo hunter's skinning set. The skinner blade shown at the bottom will be the other half of the set. The blade steel is something quite a bit different than Gib's standard 5160.......
To add a little extra to this "in the works" report here's a bit of the pre-planning I do for my part of the process. The knives will have a common sheath when done similar to the sketch below. Nothing is ever written in stone though ;) - most of my work only ever has a passing resemblance to the ideas I sketch.

Hope you enjoy the look and stay tuned for more........

Chuck that looks awsome, can't wait to see them finished.

OK, so what's the steel? Looks like damascus/shear steel?

Lookin' real good so far. That sheath design looks awesome! I'd also like to hear about the steel used for the blades.

Howdy Will and Roger - been playing cathup with leather and fighting with some bug so I'v been slow getting back.

The second knife - the skinner is finished and a full explanation of the steel used - our own Frontier Shear Steel™ - can seen on my bnew post

The sheath is in the work but due to having to get a couple of orders done this week Linda and I won't get to it until next week most likely - this set is due to go to the Chicago Show 9/10 so we're down to the wire, but we'll get it done!

Looks like it's going to be another of those that I can't wait to see the next phase. Looking good so far Chuck.

quite a bit different than Gib's standard 5160.......
