I am off tomorrow to try to get a Buffalo. These are wild ones that got loose and are on some Military land near Miles City Mt at Ft Keough. We were going to go in on horseback but last I heard they thought we might not want to do that as they are charging any horses they see. So we are going to stalk on foot most likely. Anyway, if i am succesfull I will be posting some pictures here on Monday or so if I remember my camera! :) I can smell that Hump Roast cooking now!

Save me a tasty morsel, Rob! Man, that has to be the hunt of a lifetime! Good hunting, brother!

I will be sure to save you a bite Ryan! :D I think you were on the hunt of a lifetime when you were in Afganiland! ;)

I hope your knife stays very sharp.... iiksiksíssaiikimma anna isttoána

At least that is the best translation from Blackfoot.

Well, for all you guys out there hammering me for Buffalo Jerky dont hold your breath! :D There most likely will be very little if any jerky made from the buffalo. Its all going into plain meat! :p

Ill bring some Whitetail Jerky to Vegas, bet you wont turn your nose up at it! :D

Serious city boy question for ya. Why is that buff's nose stuffed and what is it stuffed with?

Rob, question here did you shoot him with the 86 in the picture? if so was it lead or jacketed bullet? Smokeless or Black powder? howmany shots? the reason i want to know is when i shot mine i shot hime throught both shoulders with a lyman postell bullet and it didn't even slow him down and i ended up shooting him in the head to finnish him off.

Erik, I did shoot her with the rifle in the picture. (Browning 86 Carbine 45-70) I used Remington factory loaded 405 grain softpoints. I shot three times, the first shot was a running shot at about 50 60 feet and went through the right fron shoulder and lungs. This stopped her on her feet and she blew blood out her nose and I double tapped her in the heart with 2 more. The second and third shots were about an inch apart ad werent really needed. This whole thing took about 5 to 7 seconds and she was dead. Onthe first shot I just clipped the front shoulder, she must have had her leg back when I touched it off. None of the shots went all the way through, one did end up on the off side under the hide. All in all the cartridge and bullets performed great. I have taken 3 Elk, and maybe 50 deer and a Buff with that Rifle now, I like it! :)

Hey Rob....

Very cool..

That is quite the beast.. Just think what it must have been like 200 years ago when these creatures were hunted by natives with recurves..
Incredible.

Must have been quite the adventure..

Your a lucky guy to be able to do that now...

Eric...

I find it amazeing that a rifle designed over a 100 years ago could be considered reliable for such a hunt i think you need to upgrade i have a perfectly good remington 700 25-06 i would sacrifice for that old unreliable design that you have i would even throw in a genuine nylon sling so you could carry it.:D :D

Oh man, you make it tough throwing in that genuine nylon sling! Ill think about it. :D

Hey, I skinned it today and found that 1 bullet went all the way through, and found 2 bullets just under the hide on off side. They looked good.

btw-what caliber did you use?? oh, i read the posts!! cool!

bring me some jerky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
