My mom works out at Fort Buford, an historical site here in North Dakota. They have a 5 bladed knife that was believed to butcher buffalo. She said it looks kind of like a pastry blender. The blades are about 3 feet long, and the handle about 1 foot long. She said when the soldiers would go out and kill a buffalo, they would clean it and bring it back. Then about 4 soldiers would put this knife on the buffalo and rock it back and forth to cut it in half.

I'll see if I can get one. It was made by Clark & Mayo of St. Paul. Could anyone get me some info on the knife?

So, 5 blades, each 3 feet long, mated to a foot long handle? Sounds scary. Are the blades parallel to each other or just pointing in whatever direction?

It's like a pastry blender, so they are all parallel. Any information on this device would be great. I tried searching all over the internet but found nothing.

I would have to see picture myself to believe the concept makes much sense. It doesn't seem necessary. Animals that size can be butchered efficiently with small stone tools.

You think it would be, but those are BIG animals. I had the experience to help butcher one of these, and the steel knives they used had to be repeatedly sharpened.
