Apologies if this has been covered, but I didn't find anything with a search. I just received my #15, and it came with a buffalo leather pocket slip. Seems I've read some things in other posts about some leathers affecting carbon steel and/or bolsters adversely. Maybe that was just when using them for storing long term, but wanted to get some advice before I start using this kind of leather slip for carrying this knife, so I don't do any damage. Thanks for the input.

As far as I know it's not the leather itself, but whether it was naturally veg tanned or tanned with chemicals.

My knife sits in the same slip and has been straight for 3 months....the only time it’s out is when in use....all is copacetic..

For long term storage is it bad to store the knife in the KSF buffalo slip?
Also, how often and what do most use on a non-user GEC / Northwoods blade to keep it factory fresh ?
Thanks for any info.

Storing a knife in a quality leather slip, like the ones from KSF, will not have a negative effect on your knives unless they get moisture in the slip or knife somehow before or while you store them. With that being said, I keep my knives in a drawer and just put them in a slip as needed because I have more knives than slips.

Yeah, the one I was referring to in the original post is their small buffalo slip they're including with GEC knives. I don't plan to store the knife in it, but thought I might use it during the day... at least until the newness wears off. Just don't want the slip to be what wears the newness off!

If you use the knife regularly and don't put it in a leather pouch wet, there should be no problem. If you plan on resting the knife for a few weeks, I would avoid storing it in a letter sheath or pouch, especially if there's brass on the knife or rivets on the sheath.
