Manufactured by Buffalo. The shirt is only available in the UK and surrounding countries. They don't export to the US so you'll have to find a dealer that will. This is a pullover anorak.

(I can't remember the last time I purchased and actual jacket/coat with a front zip. I prefer the anorak format.)

The exterior fabric is Pertex 6.

Pertex offers decent water resistance. But it's designed to soak through.

Why?

The interior is completely Pile. Pile dry's faster than anything I've ever used...

It's also designed to be worn without anything under it. It sounds strange but I've been hiking in 0 degree temps with only the S6 next to my skin.

Some of the key features include adjustable wrist cuffs. Velcro tabs are used.

Kangaroo pouch. It's a decent size, pictured is my Mobile, Mission Wallet and MAGIC SMARTWOOL OHIO STATE BEANIE.

(Suck it Michigan fans!)

Underneath the pouch is a full length zippered hand warmer. Inside is a strap that allows you to snug down the jacket.

Full length pit zips with Velcro tabs.

Full zip collar.

Hood (optional) attaches via Velcro.

Thoughts:

I've had the S6 since last fall. I've used it everyday in all types of weather conditions throughout Northeastern Ohio. My jackets have to work for three seasons or else I don't purchase them. Period.

It's incredibly durable. I've worn it to work, done decent hikes down in Stebbins Gulch and had a quick dinner out on the town all in the same day. I've thrown everything at this gear and it's still standing.

Sizing tip: When ordering you want to get as close as you can for the fit. It should fit you close to the skin. The closer the better. Nothing baggy, it hampers the Pile from doing it's job.

Cons:

Pile: With wear the Pile has a tendency to flatten and bunch. This cause a drop in efficiency time when mopping up the water. You can re-fluff by giving a vigorous rub to the interior of the jacket.

It's heavy. No way around it. Definitely not a piece for the UL crowd. I'd love for Buffalo to find away to reduce the weight and keep the effectiveness of the S6.

Overall, I've been extraordinarily pleased with my purchase.

I have a Special 6. It is a great smock, but I find that when the zip is done up all the way it into my throat.

I'm going to try a Montane Extreme Smock ..and then maybe keep the Buffalo at work. It will be the ideal garment to wear when I'm up the Bronto Skylift in winter!

I know that this thread is 5 years old, but I'm pretty fascinated with the BS6 concept and have a couple of questions.

Are you as happy now, after 5 years with your BS6? Would you buy it again?
Any problems crop up?
Is it too hot for our ever-getting-milder Ohio winters?
How much throat coverage does the collar give you?

...If you're still out there, I'm just curious...

Go Bucks, etc.
