buffer attachment for KMG

I don't have a buffer and instead have been clamping my Fordom tool in the vise with a buffing wheel attached. This works but puts too much strain on the flexshaft. I'been looking at a 1/4 hp Baldor but I like the variable speed that my current set up affords. Then I started thinking that I could perhaps mount a buffing wheel to a tooling arm on my KMG (I have a variable speed). Naturally, I would only run it at very slow speeds. If viable, this also would obviate the need to purchase a buffer. Has anyone heard of this? Is it possible? Insane? As always, many thanks in advance.

Yes, It's possible. One of the main design goals of the KMG was to allow for unlimited versatility for what ever ideas might come up.

We made a couple custom buffer attachments a while back...maybe 8 years ago.

This one used the drive belt from the motor.

And this one was a combination set-up with contact wheel and buffer wheel. This was for a mobile sharpening guy who services beauty salons in the Beverly Hills area.

These are not offered for sale...but at least the photos might give you some ideas. You can see how simple in might be should you decide to make one.

Thanks Rob, this helps. BTW, I got my KMG from you last spring and I can't tell you how satisfied I am with the quality and performance of your machine.

How about getting a few felt belts and using them with your standard wheel/platen?
