Say you have a knife that you want to take out some nicks and scratches on the bolsters. What grits would one use?
I imagine there would be a progression from coarse to fine.
Then to get the mirror finish, how do you do that?

I use about 400 grit with a rigid soft board and keep it flat if there are just small scratches.
Deeper gouges and you have to take away material more aggressively.
I'll buff very lightly with a loose wheel and green rouge, or a little more pressure with red.
The rouge also puts the shine back on the Macassar ebony where the paper hits it.

There's a lot of purdy under some of that ugly. :)

Thanks, Stumps. I will be trying some things on Monday when I get back to work. Tried a few things at home but I need some air power.

Are there any tips on buffing Micarta?
