Well, I have an ols compressor motor that looks like it will be a SAFER? (if there is one) buffing motor. It doesn't spin as fast. I ordered some gray and green compound from pops.

My question is that I have read about greaseless "Satin" finish compound.
Will I get that look from the gray and green from pops...

Also McMaster Carr has 400 grit coumpound that says its for non-ferrious metals.

Will this work...I dont have to pay shipping through my job if I use that stuff.

Thanks for the help...AS Always :p

A good homebrew buffing compound for non -ferrous metals is cigarette ash to start and toothpaste for finer work . Give it a shot !

this may sound dumb....but are knife steels non -ferrous?

Humm...toothpaste and cigs! Good idea.

Non Ferrous is like copper, brass, bronze, etc. No Iron.

if I try the greaseless stuff will the bar or brush on be better?

I think hand rubbing sounds less trouble....

Maybe I can hand rub to 400 grit (maybe 320) then hit it with the green to give it just a touch of shine? Finishing is an art all in its own.

I have beed etching to a gray but also thought that I could try to buff it to give it a beter look that the plain etched gray.
