Buffing nick from Micarta

I have a GEC #71 with maroon micarta scales. It fell out of my briefcase today and got two nicks on the micarta. What I am wondering is how can one "buff" out the scratches in the micarta? They're not big or horrible, but I'd like to make them go away if I can. Cheers!

Sand them out with some sandpaper. Start with the highest grit that will slowly remove them, I'd say 400 or 600. No need to be aggressive with it right off the bat.

Once the dings are gone, you'll see that the micarta will most likely be faded and have a rougher appearance. Use some even higher grit paper (800 or up) to smooth it all out and then buff it. I usually use a fabric wheel on my cordless drill with a little polishing compound paste. Once it's buffed, it will have a more even finish. Rub both scales down with some oil, mineral or lemon, and it will soak it up making it look like you never touched it at all.

The key is to work slow and not to be too aggressive, otherwise you may not be able to hide your work as well.
