Hi,

I have some copper color buffing compound and some white color polishing compound that's used for automotive work by Turtle Wax. Can I use these on a leather strop or do I need to find some dedicated honing compound for stropping blades?

I tried to find some details on what grit they are, but I can't find it.

Thanks,

Dan

CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) and Diamond are the best. I like the spray better than the paste, but both work extremely well. Good choice!

If you use it on leather spray some WD-40 on a towel and wipe down the strop before putting on the diamond paste it helps it spread. Start out by putting one little dab on the surface of your strop and work it in, it does not take much to cover a strop, use sparingly.

Thanks for the tip. I'm also making my own benchtop strop. The leather I have has a shiny smooth side (like the finished side of a wallet or belt) and a furry side like you find on a suede surface. Which side is best for stropping? And does that go for both with a paste and w/o paste?
