Buffing/polishing with an orbital sander?

Is it possible to use a small orbital sander to polish blades?? Don't know if there are circular sanding pads with as fine gril as I want (800 - 3,000).
Not sure either if there is something that will fit over the rubber disk like you would use when waxing a car. Any thoughts?

use spray adhesive on a worn sanding pad, and stick on a finer grit cut from a sheet.
