I'm considerig purchasing a Sharpening System from Jantz Supply. Baldor Buffer, compressed fiberboard wheels, assorted grits, etc.

Can anyone offer me any advice about the learning curve, any potential blade damage, etc? I would be using it to sharpen commercially.

Thank you,

Bustelo

I have been using the slotted paper wheel from Jantz for polishing the edges on the knives I sharped with my Tormek and it brings the edge to razor sharp. I don't use their grit wheel, I use a Tormek to get the edge angle, but with their slotted paper wheel with white rouge you have a "razor maker". The one thing I did do to help get the right polishing angle on the edge I had just ground on the blade was to draw a verticle line on the side of the paper wheel and then draw lines as 15°, 20°, 25°, and 30°. I now know the right place to put the blade edge on the wheel to get it polished and not be too far up on the blade or too close to the edge and round it over. Yes, there is a small learning curve, but it is quick to pick up. Good luck... You will have your blades "scary sharp" in no time.

Thanks for your quick response! Excuse my ignorance, but what the heck is a "Tormek"?

Again I thank you, Bustelo

Bustelo,
A "Tormek" is a brand name of a slow-speed (or variable speed) grinder... I'm pretty sure it's wet too (wheel runs through a water resevoir)
