Have 3 knives in the Bug-Out kit:

Becker Combat Bowie w/ Leatherman multi-tool in pocket.

Old Imperial M7 Survival Knife w/ compass, matches, emer. saw, magnesium block & sparker, fish line & hooks. The knife itself has a hammer and nail puller at the pommel and one edge is plain edge and the other has a fine and heavy saw blade.

Rat-3

Bushmaster Carbon-15 w/ 2 spare magazines (loaded of course) :)
100 rounds of spare .223

Browning HP .40 w/ 4 spare magazines (loaded too) 50 rounds of spare .40

Have the standard goodies: MRE's, firstaid kit, paracord, flashlight, ect...

Of course I'll have either a Spyderco or Benchmade folder and my Swiss Army in my pocket.

Have I forgotten anything ?

Have'nt figured out how to carry the 12 GA Mossburg 500 though. :D

Hard to answer that question w/o knowing more about the "etc" part.

Stuff you might want: Whistle, signal mirror, water + water filtration equipment, full size compass (my exp is those knife compasses don't last long), maybe a tarp/poncho, and extra batteries.

I'm guessing the Mods will move this out of General.

Honestly, my impression is that you've forgotten more than you have remembered. You aren't describing a BOB, you're describing an infantryman's loadout when supported by good supply lines.

How about some good wool socks, or a tarp, or water purification gear? A backpacking stove, rain gear, waterproof boots, spare glasses (if applicable), prescription meds, copies (digital or physical) of your important papers, can opener, sleeping bag.

You're far more likely to bug out due to a natural or manmade disaster than you are for civil unrest, and you can't shoot hypothermia!

Well, you sound like you're prepared. There are a few items you may want to add:
  • Thermal "space" blankets (disposable and non-)
  • Cabela's gun cleaning kit (extremely portable)
  • Flashlights: Fenix P3D (main), w/white and red cones and Fenix E01 (reading)
  • Batteries
  • Magnifying glass
  • Hand sanitizer and wet wipes
  • Water filter
  • Radio
  • Ann Coulter book (if she start's looking good, cut your wrists:D)
  • Box of candy bars
If I think of more, I'll post them. I'm putting my stuff together, too, so I'll check back.

agreed.
water...food...shelter...protection...communication...luxuries

Watch? Any hygeine products? Idk... i've never heard of a bug out bag. Just thinking of stuff id want if i were in a survival situation.

Most of the items mentioned were included in the ect..., got so much stuff in the bag did'nt want to mention it all. It's all in a large backpack and still have a little room left, but it weighs in at 50 Lbs. I do need to get a decent compass as a back-up to my GPS. also going to add some power/energy bars. Hopefully the bag will never be needed, but gives me a little security that it's packed and ready to go. Natural disasters come to mind. Thanks for the suggestions.

Google ((((Bug out bag)))) and you will find a boatload of suggestions... From the """ EXPERTS""" anyway lots of ideas you may not have thought of...

I'd ditch those MRE's cause they're horrible. Just my opinion as someone who's been forced to eat them...although wheat snack bread with jalapeno cheese spread is pretty tasty.

Bad tasting emergency food is good because you have to actually be hungry ,not just nervous or bored to eat it.

you have way too much stuff in that BOB.

good points gents.

i have a small one ready to go.

basic stuff, flashlight, knife, chemlights, 550 cord, firestarter stuff, alcohol wipes, mre's, first aid kit.

remember, you have to carry that bag. if its too heavy, you'll just end up dumping stuff along the way.

But bigger ones are more fun to talk about on the interwebz, and brag to our mates about.

I know of people that have 6 different firearms a door breacher and 3 different lots of ammo for the pistols, mixed ammo for the shotgun and "lots of" automatic weapon ammo, in their BOB, BECAUSE ITS COOL.

I agree with just about all of this. You seem to be describing a survival type kit more than a B.O.B. Wikipedia has a decent article on it. I would add in bottled water(carry as much as you can without it being burdensome) and put emphasis on the blankets. Some of those hand warmers would do you good as well. 72 hours can be a long time without anything available.

Yep. Might as well talk about a "When Zombies Attack Bag."

One of the things about the gear for BOB's or survival bags is that you often need them to serve multiple purposes. Since you need to carry the gear, redundancy is working against you. Why do you need 3 knives? Why not one fixed blade knife with 4 inch blade and one hatchet or small axe for chopping/smashing/entry chores?

Why 3 guns, each with different ammo? Why not just a 12 gauge, with slugs for big game, OO Buck for defense, and shot loads for small game?
