bug out bag

was wondering what everybody was putting in there bug out bag, I was thinking a LD (light duty) bag and a HD (heavy duty) bag, the LD would be part of the HD bag just that it would have the lighter equipment used for a short bug out, and that this bag would probably be left in the vehicle. I never go anywhere without my vehicle. the HD would have the extended length equipment, and would probably be left at home due to the size.

the question would be what would you put in your LD bag and what would be in your HD bag. I understand that climate would be a major factor however, answer for where your located at. Thank you

I keep very little in my car first because of break-ins and the high incidence of car theft. Secondly, very little can stand up to the extremes of temperature found in a car. Lastly, so I do not have anything in the car that is too valuable when it is at the shop, or if absolutely necessary to use valet parking.

If I lived in a less developed part of the country that might be different. When I go on a trip I take more with me, water, snacks, first aid type stuff, etc. The smaller items go in a fanny pack for convenient carry, to and from the car and on walks.

What I do keep in the car is a leatherman tool, SAK, or similar, mini-mag light with lithium batteries, air pressure gauge, Fisher Space pen, a pad, a few tools, some cord, maps, car compass, some change, and the items that come with the car. I have a Cyalume in one of the cars, or whatever the bend and glow chemical lights are called---I should get some more.

Regular flares would also be nice, but I confess I do not have any. (I did read they might be a better bear repellant than bear spray, assuming one could get them into operation fast enough????) I also wonder if they could be a fire hazard as they age????

Takao,
You are welcome.

I just wanted to point out that this topic was discussed at length in the General Blade Discussion forum. If not there, somewhere else on BF, or it might have been archived.
