Are the Bugei Trading Company Katana and other blade offerings made in the United States or have they gone the way of the rest of the world and had their products made in Communist China?

AFAIK they've always been made in China - by a division of Paul Chen's Hanwei company.
That's basically the reason why you see so many of Hanwei's high-end models are somewhat similar to the Bugei line.

Bugei have always been made in China. They are made in the same forge as Hanwei swords. The difference between Bugei and the rest of the Hanwei line though is the amount of quality control that Bugei goes though is much better then the rest of the Hanwei.

Is there such a thing as a Japanese katana made in Japan for sale in the US?

An actual Japanese made katana will cost several thousand dollars. $10,000++++

It is VERY difficult to obtain one that is directly from Japan. Especially if it was recently made.

If you want a high end katana check out Howard Clark's offerings at www.mvforge.com The best thing to do is get on his order list when he is accepting orders.

Thanks Bimmer1.
A guy I knew in Japan on exchange helped make a katana at a local smiths in his area up north. He got to keep the sword. I have lost contact with him. I wonder if he still has it.

There are plenty of traditionally made Japanese swords that are made in Japan for under $10,000. They made not be by award winning smiths, but they are still nihonto none the less.

If you contact some of the reputable sword schools, many have contacts to modern-made "martial arts-grade" nihonto - usually in the $4000-$6000 range. The quality is there, but the materials and time spent on polish, intricate fittings, etc isn't.
