Just picked this up off the exchange. Box says it’s from 2025. I’ve had a ton of buyouts but never one that had a blade grind this bad and had the coating wear so fast.

I cut up one…….one cardboard box and the coating is already coking off and it’s significantly dulled. I have not had this experience in the past with my other buyouts.

Here are a few pictures right out of the box and then two that shows the worn coating already.

Is their quality going down the crapper? Or is this fake?

Sounds sus, I would research how to spot fake bugouts since they are counterfeited so much. The Benchmade logo seems uneven, is there an actual R in a circle under the butterfly wing?

The logo is definitely straight. It may be the angle of the photos. I cannot get a good picture of the trademark r. I have never handled the cf elite before. The thumb studs are shiny. The finish coming off already has me really thinking.

It’s looks legit to me. Cerakote is the worst trend to take off in our hobby. Cardboard is very abrasive as you know I’m sure, almost like fine sandpaper. The edge holding, I’m not sure on that; I’ve had pretty good luck with their S30V.

I’m thinking it’s legit. And the cerakote is just not too good. It was pretty heavy cardboard. It’s easy to get all mixed up in your head with these knives. Just so make fakes out there. The shiny numbers threw me for a loop. But I found some pictures in another thread that look identical to the one I have

Box isn't dispositive bc a common scam is to buy a real and a fake, then return the fake in the real box and it gets resold.
I did read one post where a guy used the tip of a legit knife to scratch the fake blade, but the fake didn't scratch the legit one. You'd have to try that on a hidden area.
(Edit: scratched the steel itself, not the coating)

I feel like it’s legit… just a crappy example of it. Like Benchmade is putting out some crappy QC knives these days

It looks legit. The only thing that catches my eye is the Axis bar doesn't appear to have the shiny finish of a titanium Axis bar. It looks like a steel bar. The CF Elite model has a titanium bar. But maybe it's just the photo. Is the lockbar titanium? Is it nonmagnetic?
