Bugout G10 vs CF?

I got the BladeHQ G10 Bugout late last year, and it is ALMOST my Goldilocks knife. However, the light G10 is driving me crazy with needing to be cleaned any time I wear dark jeans. Plus I wish it had a touch more grip (though not so much that it’s sandpaper to my jeans). Also haven’t been a fan of the green accents.

Thinking to sell it and get either the new carbon fiber Bugout or make a custom one on Benchmade’s site with the dark grey G10.

Has anyone handled both and able to comment on the Benchmade G10 vs their CF (texture/grippiness/etc)? I’m leaning towards the CF just for the aesthetics.

Thanks for any help!

I had both. The BHQ is a tad bit more grippe. The CF with blue is better looking IMO but mine had a horrible action, wouldn't drop shut after a week even with the pivot screw backed all the way out. And was the dullest BM I've ever received, the only one that wouldn't shave brand new. Was quite a let down. For me it wasn't even close the BHQ knife was so much better and the CF went back. Luck of the draw I guess. You could always die the handles.

I don’t think there is a noticeable difference in the “grippiness” in the G10 finish used on the Bugouts and the carbon fibre finish. Not enough to be the deciding factor anyway. If anything I’d agree that the G10, having a little bit more relief in the finish, might be very slightly grippier.

I’m still not entirely sold on that exposed blue lanyard hole backspacer thingy on the 535-3 though. I’m curious to see how the ano wears. I haven’t perceived it as a hot spot but then I haven’t used the knife particularly hard or for extended periods yet. Aftermarket carbon fibre scales, new standoffs and thumb studs for the knife you already have might be a third option.

What the above gents said. Both are slippery fellas.
The original cf-elite or grivory is actually the grippiest to me.

Interestingly enough out of all my benchmades, I find the 943 aluminum to have the best grip in hand....usually aluminum guys are eels.

Thanks all! I actually got antsy and ordered the CF before the first response, may see if I can cancel the order. Sounds like the grippeness may be a wash, but that’s a good point about wear. Plus some reviews seems to be echoing similar sentiments with quality control issues.

I’ve been hesitant to mod it myself because I don’t want to void warranty, but may try it. Does Benchmade sell the G10 or CF-Elite scales standalone? I’m partial to BM’s contours vs some of the 3rd party that look flat.

Not sure, but major dealer sites sell plenty of aftermarket scales. You can also try Flytanium.

Good luck

If you haven't seen it yet, SMKW has a exclusive Bugout in OD G10 & M4. There is some texturing on the G10. I have one of theirs and a Grivory scaled Bugout. The grippiness seems about equal to me. I haven't tried the CF version yet so I can't speak to that one.

I actually picked one up today. I lucked out on this piece, when I stopped at local dealer looking for a 940. Which I ended up ordering from the dealer.

IMG_20210421_083114831_copy_2048x1536_copy_819x614.jpg I have the CF Elite 535Bk-2. The grippiness is great and it is noticably more stout than the regular grivory scales when squeezing together. My favorite knife........I got it second hand and the DLC blade was stonewashed........ Looks battleworn...... My favorite knife by far.

Thanks for all the input! For better or worse I didn’t cancel before shipping and the 535-3 should be here tomorrow. Guess I’ll get a good side by side feel, and either keep the CF or return it and stick with my G10. Will post an update!

Well, I’ve been able to try both out side by side now. Surprisingly, the CF actually feels a little grippier to me. The surface is smooth but the material just seems to stick a little better. That said, I’m not quite sold on the cut corner for the spacer, didn’t realize how much I used that part when pulling out of my pocket. Makes the CF model feel just a little awkward.

All in all I think I prefer the G10! May swap the green hardware with the black from my all-black version, and just run with it like that.

I’m also smacking my forehead though, forgot to check the return policy before ordering the CF, gonna get hit with a restock fee now. I like it enough that I’m tempted to keep it, but that’s just a lot of money when I prefer the G10.
